ChALLENGE:

Holland Brothers Films worked collaboratively with Digitas and EE to create a series of adverts for Samsung’s new Flip/Fold 5 range of mobile phones. The challenge was creating an advert which demonstrated the strengths of the phone with EE being the network to purchase through.

Digitas gave us a creative ‘toy box’ of assets and influencers which we could utilise. Three different sets of musicians and DJs popular on TikTok and Instagram: The Stickmen, AJ Wavy, and Woody Cook.

A song was also provided which the DJ’s would then ‘flip’ with their own unique style; for example, the Stickmen would give the track a percussive beat combined with their impressive light performance, whereas AJ Wavy would give the track a unique southeast Asian sound.

Holland Brothers Films created a brief from these assets which encompassed endless creativity and fun made better on the ‘UK’s best network’. We wanted to see the artists using the phone in their own creative process, how the phone made this process easier, and the fun that could be had doing so.

The action would be captured natively on the phones for social content released by the artists themselves. Holland Brothers would also film around this process, capturing how the phone was utilised by these artists; for example they were great for selfie videos due to its elegant hinge design.

Once we had captured all three DJs, we edited the native social content and delivered this to the artists who subsequently posted to their socials. We also edited together a longer form social Ad for EE’s main page which combined all three artists and stacked their different ‘flips’ back-to-back to show the breadth of creativity, and by extension what was possible with the phone.

A few short form ads were also made, such as Woody Cooke video-calling the Stickmen from Creamfields, demonstrating the phone’s video clarity and EE’s endless video calling plan which didn’t eat into your data.

OUTCOME:

This approach was a great success, engaging audiences across all three elements of the campaign to tell a complete story and drive sales of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 on EE.

Native content shared by the artists performed as well as their other non-ad related content, demonstrating the viability of this ‘organic’ approach.

The ‘hero edit’ was released to EE’s main socials, driving engagement and completing the social loop- Whereby the native content shared by the artists directed consumers to EE’s main page and helped drive interest there as well.

Whilst we don’t have definitive data from EE as to the success of the Flip/Fold 5 range of mobile devices on their network. Samsung reported a 10% increase in sales over the previous generation.

We like to think our small role played a part in this success.
